Small Scale Industry – Pakistan

A manufacturing concern having fixed assets up to Rs. 10 million, is classified as small-scale industry. Its small size should not, however, lead to under-estimating the role it is playing in the economic development of the country. It accounts for about 30 per cent of value added, of the manufacturing sector as a whole.

Its contribution tn the GDP is around 5,48 per cent,compared to the contribution of the large-scale manufacturing sector of 14.5 per cent. The share of the manufacturing sector in Pakistan’s export is above 70 per cent and the contribution of small industries to the total export is around 18 per cent.

The entire small-scale industry is in the privatd sector. It is spread in both small and big towns.
