Karachi: Karachi students have developed an auto rickshaw which runs on solar energy, the Pakistani youth also prepared an electric charger which can charge electric rickshaw with the travel costs only 75 paisa per km. This time students belonging to Iqra University from Karachi has taken the ground by manufacturing Solar powered Rickshaw.
Basically, the design of this Rickshaw named “Solect” has no dissimilarity with CNG Rickshaw although; it is connected with solar power system rather than CNG or other fueling. This Rickshaw can resolve the severe problems of people. This solar powered rickshaw is fully automatic; a 1000KW gives 40 km/h speed to it whereas the extreme speed of this three wheeler vehicle is 60km/h.
There are five solar panels operating on the rickshaw with five batteries and is driven by one Direct Current (DC) Motor. However, the cost of this innovative solar rickshaw is Rs.30,000, but it can be covered within a year. Although this is not the first time that a solar auto rickshaw has been formed as people have made such an invention in India, but this is the first time happening in Pakistan.
If government provides proper attention to this invention of solar powered Rickshaw, which will be put on exhibition at the upcoming Engineering Projects exhibition in Islamabad since Solect is also approved by Pakistan Engineering Council.
It is vital that further research projects are accepted to meet the needs of energy crisis and also to use energy resources which are both safe for the environment and better for the economy.

1. It is mentioned in story that 1000KW gives 40Km/ph. 1000KW is huge power i mean really very huge. I think we can power upto 200+ homes with that much power

I think price 30,000 is totally incorrect. 1000KW requires huge amount of solar energy and if you consider low quality cheap chinese solar panels then it would cost you around 100 rupees for 1 Watt and to make 1 Kilowatt multiply it with 1000
so 1000 x 100 = 100,000 PKR to get 1KW now multiply it with 1000 again the cost to generate direct solar power with cheapest chinese solar panels willbe

To mount that much panels you need a wide area (i mean an area with size of small locality)
The cost 30,000 is can no way power up such vehicle. battery that can provide 200 Amps costs 20,000+ in now a days so what about the whole body of rickshaw, solar panels, engine etc…
I think the author should investigate and comeup with correct ratings and information about the topic.

This is 1000 watts and not 1000 KW which is simply a mistake
Many people are against this invention, especially those whose income is related to the sale of petroleum items. Similar innovation was introduced by a Pakistani engineer 2 years back who invented a motor car using water as a fuel. That engineer was threatened to withdraw his statement and was badly discouraged by the corrupt PPP government.
I think it is not 1000KW but 1000watts.
Yes, Its 1000 watt i.e. 1KW and cost is Rs 300,000 not 30k.
i agree with yasser, it is 1 kw and cost is 300,000, (3 laks) while normal CNG rickshaw is around 180, 000/=
