Supreme Court And High Courts In Pakistan

Appeals lie to the Supreme Court of Pakistan from judgments and orders of all the High Courts in the country, as also from the Federal Shariat Court. The Supreme Court has concurrent write jurisdiction similar to the High Courts. It also has jurisdiction to answer references made to it by the Government, as well as to settle causes of dispute among Provincial Governments and between the latter and the Federal Government.

There is a High Court in each of the four Provinces of Pakistan. The Islamabad Capital Territory falls within the jurisdiction of the Lahore High Court, Punjab. The High Courts have original writ jurisdiction, and appeals from judgments and orders made therein lie to the Supreme Court. Subject to such appeals the decision of the High Courts are final.

The High Court’s hear appeals arising out of judgments and orders made by the District judges on the civil side and the Sessions judges on the criminal side. A High Court has the overall control of all0he civil and criminal courts in the Province.
