Targets And Higher Education Commission

The government established the Higher Education Commission on 14th August, 2002. The targets of Higher Education Commission are given as under:

  • To increase higher education from 2.6% to 5% by the year 2005
  • To increase the enrollment of student from 100,000 to 200,000 by the year 2005
  • To increase funds for higher education, from 0.39% to 1% of GDP by the year 2005
  • To introduce Information Technology Education in all the public sector university

Educational Problems of Pakistan: The feudal lords discourage education. They do not want poor parents’ children to get education. They are afraid of losing the cheap labour in the rural areas.

The feudal lords employ poor children on little wages. The literacy rate in the rural areas is still very low. Accommodation for Students: Hostels are not available for students especially for the students of technical and medical colleges.
