The Constitution Of Pakistan – 1962

General Ayub (later President) appointed a Commission on 17 February 1960 for drafting the Constitution of Pakistan. It includes five representatives each from East and West Pakistan.

The report of the Constitution Commission was presented to President Ayub on 6 May, 1961 and thoroughly examined by the President and his Cabinet. In January 1962, the Cabinet finally approved the text of the new constitution. It was promulgated by President Ayub Khan on 1 March, 1962 and finally came in to effect on 8 June, 1962. The constitution contained 250 articles divided in to twelve parts and three schedules.

Unity and observance of Islamic moral standards should be promoted amongst the Muslims of Pakistan and proper organization of Zakat, Wakfs and Mosques should be ensured. Only Muslim could become head of the States.
