Your School has rules. Clubs have rules for their members. Even games have to be played by rules. Similarly, every society has its own rules. Without rules, things do not run so smoothly.
When we make rules we hope everyone will obey them. Imagine what would happen if some motorists decide they want to drive on the wrong side of the road! Or if, in a game of football, some players pick up the ball and run with it!
Stealing from others, injuring somebody or taking their life, making a disturbance, or damaging other people’s property are all offences or crimes. There are many crimes which people commit. When someone does break the law, he or she can be arrested by the police.
