The Plateau Of The Salt Range & The Potwar

The Salt Range starts from near the Jhelum district in the Jogi Tilla and Bakrala ridges. It crosses the Indus near Kalabagh & continues towards the south-west into the districts of Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan. The Salt Range contains large quantities of salt & minerals like coal & gypsum.

The average height of the range is about 670 metres and the Sakesar peak is 1,527 metres high. The Potwar lies between the Salt Range and the Siwaliks and covers a big block of eroded land. These are ridges, hillocks, basin plains, ditches, small rivers canals like drains and small lakes.

Although it does not have many green forests and valleys, it does have many useful mineral deposits. The rock salt, gypsum, coal and lime stone are found in large quantities.
