University of Punjab: Masters Students Facing Problems

Dear Workplace Sanity, I did my Masters in Human Resource Management four years ago from the University of Punjab. Instead of choosing HR as my career field, I pursued my dream of becoming a Civil Services of Pakistan (CSP) officer and wasted my precious time, energy and money! It was not a complete waste though. It helped me improve my communication skills and increased my knowledge. But the thing is that the degree I have is of no use as I am inexperienced in the field ogdc HR. Now it feels awkward to join an organisation as an intrenee, as  I have almost six years working experience in customer service at a reputed telecom company and administrative experience at an educational institute.

Could you suggest what I should  do to begin a career  in accordance with my educational background? Broken Dream

Dear Broken Dream, We have all had many dreams, and many of them have been broken. Perhaps you dreamt of marrying someone special, or of landing a specific job or maybe it was having a child of your own.  The details of our broken dreams may differ, but they share some commonalities. There is sadness, a sense of unfairness and at times even a tinge of jealousy towards those who have what we have only dreamed about.

Does this mean we should stop dreaming? NO WAY! From a neuroscience perspective, dreams serve a purpose; they are your programmes for success. If you can dream it, you can achieve it. The airplane, telephone, computer and countless other inventions we take for granted were once someone’s dream. While the journey of success begins with a dream, obtaining a dream requires something else. It requires ACTION and SEVERAL actions turn a dream into a tangible reality.

Think about it for a moment. Perhaps the first action for you is to actually become an INTERNEE? Immediately landing a permanent HR job may not to be your first action, in fact, right now i would not even call your dream. This is what is called a FANTASY.

So stop fantasising, keep dreaming, passionately and wholeheartedly. Dreams are free. Dreams are limitless. But remember the words of Joel A.Barker, ”Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world.”

All the success! Workplace Sanity
