Unverified SIMS Blocked By PTA In Pakistan

PTAIslamabad: Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Dr Yaseen has declared that over 6 million unregistered mobile SIMS have been blocked in the country. Cell phone operators in the country have jammed unregistered mobile SIMS on the orders of government for telecommunication (PTA).

The PTA has focused mobile phone operators to speed up the process of blocking unregistered SIMS. Mobile operators have already in progress to take action on PTA’s directive by examining the Home Location Registers (HLRs) of the Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs). There are 4, 500,000 unidentified SIMs in Pakistan, the SIMs will be unblocked as soon as possible if the subscribers do not verify their ownership.

The users have to send a message with their CNIC number to 668 and in reply a message is produced and sent to the user by telling him/her about the complete sum of SIMS allotted in his/her name under different mobile operators as according to the verification process. If somebody finds that a SIM card has been locked by mistake, they can demand unblocking from the mobile operators. Right now there are 4.47 million SIMS those have not sent any messages to 668 so they are supposed to be unverified.

The use of unverified and unregistered SIMs is a warning to Pakistan’s security. Prohibited mobile SIMs are being used for illegal activities like kidnapping, bomb blasts, target killings and communication among terrorists.
