Water Ways In Sindh

In olden days when there were no bridges and barrages, people used to travel by boats across the rivers. The commercial goods were also carried by boats. The water ways saved the long and difficult journeys by road. Some people still cross the river by boats.

There are particular places on the bank of the river from where the boats start. Such a place is called ‘Ghat’ in Urdu and ‘Patan’ in Sindh. The famous Ghats of Sindh are Nur Keti, Bhanot, Hala Old. Matiari, Sujawal and Laila near ‘Moro’.

People from Dadu district can come to Hyderabad by these ghats. The people of Larkana can come to Khairpur by these ‘Patans’. Some people also bring their goods for trade through these routes.
