Winter Road Trip – Different trips For Driving on Snow

Cars stuck in murreeIf you are planning a road trip to northern Pakistan during the winter holidays, keep these tips in mind to ensure you safety. *To minimize the chances of an accident, look further ahead in traffic than you would ordinarily do and keep an eye on the brake-lights of the car in front of you. Remember to maintain a substantial distance between other cars as the braking distance of a car increases by nearly 10 times on wet or icy roads.

*Steer slowly and apply light pressure on the brakes and accelerator. Abrupt braking, acceleration or turning will break traction and can cause your car to skid.

*If your car skids, do not apply the break traction and can cause your car to skid.

*If your car is stuck in snow, do not spin the wheels; rock it back and forth to build momentum in order to escape. For extra traction, slip floor mats or tree branches under the wheels.

*Do not accelerate abruptly when driving uphill; this can cause the tyres to spin and lose traction. Build momentum on a flat road before you reach a hill; drive slowly when going downhill and avoid braking.

*Add windscreen washer fluid to the water in your car’s windscreen washer bottle; this will ensure that it will not freeze at low temperatures; top up the radiator with antifreeze liquid to prevent freezing.

*User winter tyres-they are ideal for icy or wet roads; if you are driving with regular tyres, reduce their air pressure by three PSI.

*Make sure your rear and front screen defrosters are working properly. Otherwise, simply open the windows to prevent the windscreen from freezing or from fog.

*Be prepared; carry a bag of sawdust or sand, a small shovel, a blanket, a torch, a first aid kit, energy bars and water in case of an emergency.
