Former SSP for Malir Rao Anwar who has revealed secret information against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) with the help of arrested workers of MQM is considering as controversial figure these days. Rao Anwar was elected as SSP Malir in 1982 and when he became sub-inspector, he appointed as SHO for Nazimabad as he was also involved in two operations against MQM at that time.
SSP Rao Anwar who is consider to be close with the leadership of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and against to MQM is assume as stronger than IG as he had also faced some allegations over him but no one could harm him in any way. Lots of officer transferred from one post to another but Mr Rao stick to his seat and once when he had to leave his post, he assigned as SHO Jackson with the help of higher political figure. He had also rejected the request of sorry to MQM from former SP Chuadhary Aslam and went to Balochistan from where he returned in 2008 at Karachi at the time of the ruling government of PPP.

Supreme Court has made several attempt to remove Rao from his post but remained unsuccessful as SSP Rao Anwar has good terms with PPP due to which he successfully maintains his post in Karachi. He is still designated on the post of 19 Grade in Karachi but after his press conference against MQM, he got suspended from his post by IG Sindh. Rao Anwar claimed in his press briefing MQM has secret relations with Indian’s spy agency RAW as well as he also claimed that MQM workers used to visit India for training through Bangkok as he has also evidence in support of his claims.
In May 2015, SSP Rao Anwar has faced life attack on him by unknown assailants in Steel Town when he was going to visit the crime scene of murder of DSP Abdul Fateh at Gulshan-e-Hadeed.
However Rao survived from life attempt but five suspects had also lost their life during exchange of fire with SSP as three hand grenades were thrown over him in which two of them did not explode. An attempt had also made over SSP Rao in the year 2012 when he was going to Malir court in order to hold a meeting with a session’s judge on the subject of murder of former Malir Bar Association president Salahuddin and his son Ali.
