Agriculture employs some 53 percent of labour and provides 26 percent of GDP and 35 percent of foreign exchange earnings through export of raw produce. During 1990-91, agricultural production recorded a growth rate of 5.1 percent. This has been achieved largely due to the Government policy of providing credit facilities to farmers, encouraging local manufacture and use of agricultural machinery & implements,
