Thalassemia is a deadly inherited blood disorder; unknowingly passed on by the parents to their children. They look normal and healthy. When both parents are carriers, there is a likely chance that the child may get Thalassemia major, a life threatening anaemia which requires blood transfusion and iron chelation threapy. Sadly, the procedure can eventually damage the liver and the heart and lead to early death.
