Iskandar Mirza succeeded ailing Ghulam Mohammad as acting Governor General in August 1955. His appointment was confirmed in October, the same year after Ghulam Mohammad resigned on 6 October, 1955. To get him elected as President, all the fifty members of the League-United Front nominated him as their nominee to the office.<\/p>
