Karachi Electric Supply Corporation – Profile

The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) is a public limited joint stock company, in which the Government of Pakistan has controlling shares. It has a 13-member Board of Directors, of which two are elected by private share-holders and the rest are nominees of the Federal Government, the Government of Sindh, the Government of Balochistan and the financial institutions.

The generating capacity of the KESC was 1,738 MW in March, 1992. In addition, KESC’s supply of power is augmented by Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP), having a capacity of 125 MW but generating around 25 to 75 MW. The PASMIC (Pakistan Steel Mills Corporation) Power Station also supplies to the KESC network, with a power supply of 30 MW.

The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation Ltd., has been granted the Licence to generate, transmit and distribute power in the licenced area.
