Lord Mount Batten was sent to India as the Vice Roy in March 1947 with the partition of India Plan because the British Government had realized that it was not possible for Hindus and Muslims to live together therefore, partition of India became indispensable.

Mount Batten had already taken the approval of this Partition Plan from the Hindu leaders while the Muslims were kept uninformed from the details of this plan.

Mount Batten at last, announced this plan on June 25, 1947. A Boundary Commission, for demarcation of boundaries for the two different new countries; India and Pakistan, was appointed. Provinces of Sindh and Frontiers were given option either to remain with India or to go the lot of Pakistan.
