Benazir Bhutto’s Regime II (1993-1996)

Benazir Bhutto after becoming the Prime Minister of Pakistan hoped that she would have the cooperation of the opposition to solve the problems face by the country. She said that people do not want change of faces, they want to change the system.

The leader of the opposition Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif conceded his defeat and declared that he was ready to cooperate un-conditionally with Benazir to change the system & to solve the problems of the country.

Pakistan People’s Party nominated Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Laghari as its presidential candidate who won elections, held on 13 November, 1993, with a big majority and took the office of President of Pakistan on 14 November. The election of Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari strengthened the position of Benazir Bhutto. Nevertheless, Benazir Bhutto confronted some serious dilemmas.
