Chemical Fertilizer Industry In Pakistan

For agricultural development of Pakistan we need large quantities of chemical fertilizers. On an average basis its per hectare requirement has become more than 90 kilo grams.
 The first chemical fertilizer project was established by PIDC in 1972 at Daudkhel which has annual production capacity of 50,000 tons ammonium sulphate in addition to it in private sector Messris Exon Chemicals and Dand Hercules have been established as famous projects.

More than 11 units of fertilizers are functioning in the country, 6 in Punjab, 3 in Sindh and 2 in NWFP and their annual production capacity is 5.5 billion tons out of them 4 units are working in private sector and six units in public sector.

In Pakistan, urea, super phosphate, ammonium natrate, ammonium sulphate and nitro sulphate fertilizers are being manufactured at present.
Out of all these fertilizers production of urea is continuously increasing. Its production was as under.
