Few Schools Holiday On 22nd October (8th Muharram) in Karachi

In account of martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A), few schools of Karachi have announced holiday on 8^th Muharram (22^nd October) while some will remain open on 22^nd October. However no notification has been issued by Federal Government regarding public holiday on 8^th Muharram but some schools have decided to remain close on 8^th Muharram due to security reasons.

It is worth mentioning here that government is used to announce public holidays from 8^th Muharram to 10^th Muharranm in order to maintain security for mourning processions of Muharram. But this time, government has not announced any public holiday yet as 9^th Muharram will held on Friday and 10^th Muharram will be on Saturday this year. It is expected that government may announce public holiday on Friday for 9^th Muharram as all educational institutes are officially closed on Saturday.

It is must to be mentioned here that Shia community is used to hold large processions on 8^th, 9^th and 10^th Muharram in the remembrance of Hazrat Imam Hussain who scarified his life for the sake of Islam in Karbala battle. The battle of Karbala which is known as Ashura was held on 10th Muharram of Islamic month due to which Shia Muslims hold mourning period from 1^st Muharram to 10^th Muharram.
