Institutional Efforts For Promoting Urdu

As Urdu was the common language of India, after establishing complete rule the British Government founded William College at Calcutta so that the good English books might be translated in Urdu in this institution & Indians might be introduced with the English literature.

Under the table principal ship of Dr. Gil Chrit, easy & direct Urdu initiated to develop. The famous work of Mir Amman Delhivi’s ‘Bagh-o-Bahar’ was translated in easy Urdu in same college.

The memorable & significant role has also been played by Osmania University Hyderabad Deccan in the promotion & development of Urdu where Urdu adopted as the medium of education. The students were provided Urdu translations of standard books on science & technology so that they could understand these subjects easily through their mother tongue.
