Islamabad: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority’s (Nepra) Chairman Tariq Sadozai said that the 2005 agreement which modified in 2008 emerged as key businesses to K-Electric. He also said that federal government also provided Rs31 billion to KE by expecting them to generate 1,000 MWs, but no result has emerged in this regard.
Chairman NEPRA Tariq Sadozai further said that government was selling 650 megawatts in cheap prices due to which they had to face huge loss of Rs68 billion in just one year. While, National Transmission and Dispatch Company also gave KE an electricity of Rs111 billion which only owed Rs43 billion by the KE. KE has been violating the agreement from several aspects since three years due to which they only generated 350 MV, he added.
Mr. Sardozi criticized KE for getting benefit of Rs7 billion in a year while saying that people faced nonstop tripping and required load shedding during Ramazan because KE did not make any investment in distribution and transmission system. [alert style=”white”] He advised to KE that they should meet with NEPRA in order to sign new agreement along with new terms and conditions with the aim to generate 1,000 MWs in a quick manner.[/alert]
However, NEPRA has also sent a show-cause notice regarding the failure of KE as 15 days have given to respond to the notice, otherwise NEPRA will impose heavy fines on the company or may appoint an administrator.
