Parliament Should Stop Petroleum Ministry From Hiking Petroleum Prices: Demands Hussain Mehanti

Karachi: Jamaat-e Islami (JI) Karachi Chief Muhammad Hussain Mehanti has rejected proposed increase in Petroleum, Oil and Lubricant prices by Rs6 per litre to be effective from 1st February. The increase would deprive the already poverty-driven masses and would be tantamount to snatching a right to live with respect.

In a statement issued here Thursday, he said that the people had elected Pakistan People’s Party while rejecting Pervez Musharraf so that the democratic government should take up pro-people policies for the riddance of price-hike, unemployment and lawlessness. However, the PPP-led government had failed to resolve people’s grievances, which have greatly increased, he said adding that the government in association with its allies has broken all previous records of corruption and snatched last morsel from mouth of the poor by fourfold increase in prices of essential commodities. The people that had elected PPP have now become hostile and wanted quick riddance of the corrupt government.

“The unchecked increase in POL prices has already affected the poor and prices of all other common items have risen to a level that the poor is unable to afford, he said. “IT is the responsibility of the Parliament to rise against the tyranny of the Ministry of Petroleum and withhold its anti-social and anti-people decisions”.

The legislators of the coalition government should play their role to control the prices if they thought they were people’s real elected representatives.
