PTA chairperson Dr Ismael Shah Says Govt Has Never Set Deadline

Dr. Ismael ShahIslamabad: The chairperson of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Dr. Ismael Shah disclosed that no deadline has been set by government for biometric registration of SIMs. According to the details, PTA chairperson Dr Ismael Shah told while giving briefing to media that the deadline of 26th February was only given in order to make users to verify and register their SIMs.

However, PTA chief told that no strategy had been set for 26th February on which every unregistered was going to be blocked by PTA as not large number of people have come to verified their SIMs yet. The process of biometric registration will continue for a long time, PTA officials added.

[alert style=”white”]It is pertinent to mention that PTA and IT ministry had requested by several cellular companies to provide them one year duration for the verification of SIMS but biometric registration became more necessary just after the saddest incident of Peshawar attack on 16th December.[/alert]

Dr. Ismael Shah said that reminding messages regarding verification of SIMs are still sending to users as this process will be continue in the coming two or three weeks. Almost 62.74 million SIMs have been verified against 47.75 million CNICs during the last week and 10.4 million SIMs have been blocked according to the users’ decision who asked for it, Ismael Shah told.
