Pakistan has an abundance of sunshine all over the country. Cloudy days even in the rainiest areas are not many. Continuous occurrence of cloudy conditions interfering with the solar electric generation is rare, therefore conditions in Pakistan are ideal for the development of solar energy.
Solar energy is convertible into mechanical and electrical energy with reasonable efficiency. It is thus a unique source of energy which can and has been used successfully to meet domestic needs for lighting, water heating, space heating and cooling, as well as irrigation, crop drying and grains/fruits cold storage.
The development of solar cell which converts the light into electricity has opened new avenues of its utilization as electricity has unlimited application in all the productive and non-productive sectors.
