The Period Of Economic Coordination (1947-53)

At the initial stage of planning a Development Board was set up in early 1948. The board was assigned the functions of coordinating developing plans prepared by provincial governments, recommending priorities, watching the progress of development projects, and making a periodic report to the cabinet. Comprising the officials of the government and the representatives of the private sector a Planning

Advisory Board was also set up. The advisory Board was meant for advising government on matters of planning and development, reviewing progress in implementing plans, and evoking public support in this regard.

The Advisory Board was to be assisted by a number of industrial boards and committees comprising industrialists and businessmen were set up at the centre and in the provinces.
