Top 5 Religious Political Parties in Pakistan

There are some religious political parties which are famous for different reasons. Pakistan has a large number of religious parties who founded their party with the ideology of Islamic principles and rules. The names of the top 5 religious political parties are Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan, Sunni Ittehad Council and Mutahida Deeni Mahaz who emerged with Islamic visionary government in Pakistan.

  1. Jamaat-e-Islami:

JI is one of the old Islamic political parties which was founded by South Asian scholar and Islamist Abul Ala Maududi on 26 August 1941.  Maududi started his party JI with the aim to inspire the Muslim community who was led by Muslim League as he was opposed Muslim League who wanted a separate, independent state for Muslims. JI came into the field of politics with philosophy of revolutionary Islamic concepts but during the partition of Pakistan party was distributed into two independent organizations named as Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. However there are several groups related to JI named as Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir, Hezbi Islam and UK Islamic Mission who are following the same ideology of Abul Ala Maududi.

  1. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F):

JUI-F is known as an Islamic party of Sunni Deobandi which established in 1945 by Mufti Mahmud. Shabbir Ahmed Usmani was the first president of the JUI who resigned from the party in 1947 in order to form the Markazi Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (MJUI). However JUI was divided into two organizations JUI-F and JUI-S due to some conflicts in the government of General Zia ul Haq in 1980. In 19881, Maulana Fazlur Rehman became the president of JUI-F whereas Samiul Haq started to head JUI-S. These days JUI-F is consider as 5th largest party of Pakistan who possesses 15 general seats in the National Assembly. JUI-F is mostly based in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and in some areas of Balochistan.

  1. Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan:

JUP represents Barelvi religious leaders who are ruling in the Punjab and in different regions of Sindh. It was formed in the year 1948 by Allama Muhammad Abdul Ghafoor Hazarvi. JUP is also a part of the right wing Islamic Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal alliance which received 2.21% of the popular vote as well as 7 elected members in the general elections of 2008. JUP is famous to fight for the implementation of Sharia law in the whole country.

  1. Sunni Ittehad Council:

SIC is a group of Islamic political parties in Pakistan which holds a large number of followers of Barelvi school of Sunni Islam. SIC split into two parts named as SIC-M and SIC-F due to some political dissections. However Syed Mahfooz Shah Sahib Mashhadi is currently serving as the chairman of the SIC-M whereas SIC-F is headed by Sahibzada Fazal e Kareem. On the other hand, Aalmi Tanzeem Ahle Sunnat of Pir Afzal Qadri (of Gujrat) and Jamiat Ulema e Pakistan are the member parties of SIC.

  1. Mutahida Deeni Mahaz:

MDM was founded by Maulana Sami Ul Haq in 2013 in order participate in general elections of 2013. Maulana Sami ul Haq who is a religious scholar is famous for his close relationships with Taliban as he is known as Father of the Taliban. However he is currently serving as chancellor of Darul Uloom Haqqania who is s Deobandi Islamic institution. He is also the chairman of Difa-e-Pakistan Council and the leader of the JUI-S which is his own party. Mutahida Deeni Mahaz is strongly hated by most of the Pakistani as they used to kill politicians for their own benefits.
