A Chief of MQM Altaf Hussain was born on 17th September 1953 in Karachi as his parents was belong from Agra in India. He is the son of Nazir Hussain and Khurseed Begum as his father Nazir Hussain used to work as an officer with the Indian Railway. He has four sisters and six brothers. Hussain received his early education from the Government Comprehensive School in Azizabad as he has spent his early days in the locality of Azizabad which is now known as MQM’s Home. After which he enrolled in the Government Boys Secondary School from where he completed his matriculation in the year 1969. He completed his intermediate in pre-medical from National College Karachi and City College Karachi and completed his BSC from Islamia Science College in the year 1974. Later then he took admission in Karachi University in order to complete his graduation in Pharmacy.
However Altaf Hussian started his career as a trainee at the Seventh-day Adventist Hospital but he already started his political career during his young age when he was studying in Karachi University. He formed All-Pakistan Mohajir Students Organization (APMSO) in 1978 which received massive popularity within a short period of time. However APMSO emerged as dominant political party of Pakistan with the name Mohajir Qaumi Movement but later Mohajir Qaumi Movement replaced by Muttahida Qaumi Movement. These days MQM is known as third largest party of Pakistan which has gained great attention due to the efforts and struggles of Altaf Hussain.
In the early of 1990s, government conducted an operation against criminal and terrorists as MQM got highly targeted during this operation due to which Altaf Hussain escaped from Pakistan. He went Saudi Arabia on 1st January 1992 and then also left for London, United Kingdom where he applied for political asylum due to criminal charges over him in Pakistan. However, Altaf Hussain’s brother and nephew became victim of the military operation in 1992-93.
The 61-years old politician got his British citizenship in the year 2002 and has been living there since many years. He has faced several criminal and corruption charges over him as almost 3576 cases were registered against him. Although MQM used to claim that all these charges were fake as it is only a propaganda to defame Altaf Hussain but at last all these cases got end under National Reconciliation Ordinance.
On the other hand, Altaf Hussain has also been involved in money laundering case since the last year when London’s Metropolitan Police began money laundering investigation against him after finding suspicious money from his residency. However despite of several allegations and charges against Altaf Hussain and MQM, a large number of people in Karachi have big heart for MQM who always show their support to Altaf Hussain and its political party MQM.
