Who Will Be Next Chief of the Army Staff After Gen Raheel Sharif?

Army_ChiefSitting Chief Of Army Staff COAS, General Raheel Sharif has recently announced that he is not interested in taking extension and will retire on time. After this announcement which was made by the spokesperson of ISPR Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa, a debate has been started in the country that why Army Chief General Raheel Sharif didn’t take extension? Speculations have been also started in the whole country that who will be the next Chief of the Army Staff after the retirement of General Raheel Sharif, which is due on 30th November 2016.

According to the reports, 5 most senior officials have been included in the expected list for the next Army Chief, including Lieutenant General Maqsood Ahmed, Lieutenant General Zubair Mehmood Hayat, Lieutenant General Syed Wajid Hussain, Lieutenant General Najeeb Ullah Khan and Lieutenant General Ashfaq Nadeem.

Lieutenant General Maqsood Ahmed is deputed in the US for United Nations, however his retirement is expected on 13th January 2017. Out of these 5 officials, 4 will be retired on 13th January 2017, while Lieutenant General Ashfaq Nadeem will be retired on 8th August 2017.

Defence analysts of Pakistan have said that the chances of General Zubair Mehmood Hayat and Lieutenant General Ashfaq Nadeem are bright for the next Army Chief.
