The famous journalist of Pakistan Talat Hussain slamming the role played by the local media has said that journalism looks to lose its true essence. Media which is being considered a watch dog of the society and a platform for the voice of people is devoted to raise the happenings of other countries especially that of the neighboring country, India. In his writing piece he talked about the features, the news stories covered on various female actresses of India in which every details related to their personal lives is there.
Criticizing he said that knowing the single details of Indian film industry has been made easy by the Pakistani media who covers all the entertainment facts from Bollywood. Expressing failure of the journalists to neglect the serious masses issue happening globally with Muslims in Syria, Egypt, Libya he writes that the western media have given importance to the Muslims ethics and norms as the France media covered story of the Muslim woman who refused to remove her veil from face in the court despite the displeasure shown by the court officials. ‘Unfortunately western media pens about over issues but we being Muslims and local people are less bothered to consider it as our responsibility’. A France based woman has however shown us that following her religion even at the cost of violating democracy remains her priority, the journalist said.
Talat Hussain suggested that in order to provide the readers with entertainment news and good features, stories of rich people, success stories of celebrities, known businessmen and others could be published. ‘Our media looks to sell Indian culture and norms by making part of its daily stories’.
He called it mere an illusion of fake characters and creating fantasy around the Pakistani people, a tactic used by Indians through their news and other mediums.
Talat questioned about the local media and its role. He pointed out that many news papers had used ordinary headlines over the killing of the Pakistani soldier by the Indian forces, some even have not used word ‘martyr’ for the deceased. It is disheartening to see such practices he stated.
Very good article – mind blowing know to our media houses. I wonder. , our media was silent about the day of CAPT RASHID MINHAS ; our national hero!!!!!!!
In which direction we are going? I salute you dear Talat Hussain/

The problem for media is money so for money we can sell our values, we can forget our heroes even we are willing to give away our national identity.
Media have to sell what they can….people have to see what the media has to show. It’s a dilemma with us. It’s not that we are submitting our values or the media has become shameless. What we are lacking is the awareness that we have better things to do, to show and to act upon. We lack the knowledge of our values thus we are changing our norms. Where else in this globe we have a country or society, where the markets don’t open before noon. In all the other countries of the world people are out for work at 7or 8 in the morning so that they reach the workplace in time. We in Pakistan, only send our children to schools at that time and then go off ot sleep. Few people, a minute number which works in banks, government departments or factories go to

…..work places in the morning. A vast majority is starting the day well after noon, some of them well after the zohur time. TV, cable and other types of video attachment, which started in the late seventies with the import of vcr’s, has totally corrupted our culture, without we realising it. We need to address this. Serious thoughts should be given to address this problem. Indian media, Indian films, Indian culture and other imported, rather smuggled, influences will automatically vanish from our society when we involve ourselves in other productive activities. We need to think on that. Media will also be showing only those things, which will be productive in nature, contributing to the improvement of our society and economy. For the time being, there is no activity, everybody seems to be involved only in useless gossip and is in the process of enlarging the useless grapevine of politics and boosting the Indian film industry, directly or indirectly. Media is as much responsible in this as much as the individual ! Media alone can not be blamed. Government should try to start some programmes instead, which should induce the public, persuade the audience to stop wasting time and consume the work hours in positive manner. Religion could also play a major role, specially in case of Pakistan, where a great majority is already religious, but has to be taught the right way to spend time, specially with introduction to strict discipline to start the day, at the time of fajar, when we start this campaign at home with our ownselves and with a gentle manner with our children and servants. I can assure you people that more than half of our problems, of all sorts, could be solved with this endeavour. Other things should also be considered to solve this problem as to how to spend time in a positive manner rather than watching useless TV / video shows, of Bollywood or Hollywood !
